This is the first book that I helped someone to publish, and is the first book apart from my own on Hayzee Books. It is 'Weaving Wyrd' by Elle Mort. This cover was at first designed in colour, but it was later decided upon that the starkness of black and white would better suit the subject. The picture was supplied by Elle Mort and cropped / sharpened etc by me.

Another one published by Hayzee Books from the pen of Elle Mort and cover design by me. A cracking read from a talented poet.

The first book of stories from the talented Ann Perry. I mean this in the kindest way when I say that I haven't read any of Ann's stories for some time - especially as she has been writing mostly poetry these days. The job fell to me to format the text to the right format for publishing. This meant also reading the stories to make sure punctuation, spelling etc was right. If I say that I was pleasantly surprised at her skill, flair and talent as a writer, it would be an understatement. She writes with a good deal of humour. The warmth shines through in the characters. I have had a chuckle, and also (quite literally) been reduced to tears. That story was 'The Christmas Tree'. It hit me completely in a totally unexpected manner. If you buy this book for just one story alone, it is worth it just for that one delightful tale.

BOOKS BY OTHERS

This is a cover I designed for an old friend of mine, Graham Knight. The story is about a time box with a magic key. I concentrated on the key rather than being obvious and concentrating on the box. The key was shaped like an old-fashioned carpet beater.

The next book cover that I designed was for Ann Perry. Again, we took the not-so-obvious path. It is called Flora, Fauna, Fairies and Other Favourite Things. It would have been easy to take the obvious course of pasting a picture of a fairy onto a woodland background. We wanted to go for the 'cozy' angle. I imagined a nice kitchen with a couple of teacups on a tablecloth. I asked Ann to do a few compositions and take the pictures and I put the cover together for her. She said that she was extremely pleased with the outcome and would have never thought of the idea.
